Pranayama Technique - Breathing

BENEFITS of PRANAYAMA TECHNIQUE:

  • Starts the relaxation process
  • Expands the lungs and bronchial trach
  • Helps relieve blood pressure
  • Relieves irritability
  • Exercises nervous, respiratory and circulatory systems
  • TIPS:

  • Keep the shoulders relaxed and down
  • To increase focus imagine tracing a line along the ceiling backwards as you exhale, and forwards as you inhale
  • Try to expand the lungs fully – imagine opening the lungs to both sides to the front and to the back
  • Keep the elbows above the line of your sternum
  • In a 90 minute yoga class - this is the beginning. Let your breath take over. Listen to every word that the instructor says. A good instructor will guide your every movement. Go gentle on this first exercise. You have a long way to go. You should feel a gentle perspiration by the end of the two sets with no pain or cramping in your neck and spine.
